OTTERMANIA II –  Progress Meeting

All Otters (swimmers and coaches alike) are cordially invited to attend.  The Meeting will be timed to finish around 6:45 that our 7-8 pm swimmers may attend their swim practice.
There will be a stroke and turn clinic on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Canada Games Pool beginning at 7:00 p.m.
This clinic is being run by Ron Gracan (he lives in Tsawwassen, and his daughter Ali of SDSS was the recipient of the Winskill Otters Masters bursary this year).  The BC Swim Officials Association is trying to get as many people as possible from the various masters clubs to attend these clinics and become certified stroke and turn judges so that it is conducting general clinics as opposed to a club-by-club clinic.
Otters who wish to attend a refresher course or wish to be newly certified, are kindly requested to attend this clinic.
Firstly, these clinics are an idea opportunity to appreciate and learn more about the technicalities of all four swimming strokes, and secondly, stroke and turn judges are vital to the running of a swim meet and in particular, our own OTTERMANIA II.  (there is no charge to attend this clinic.)

Date: Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Place: Canada Games Pool, New Westminster

Time: 7:00 p.m. to approx. 9:30 p.m.

All Otters are encouraged to attend this clinic, either as a first-timer or as a refresher, to become certified or re-certified stroke and turn judges at Ottermania and other masters meets and other meets. It is hoped that Ottermania will be an annual event since it is the only long course Meet on the Mainland. The only other long course meet is the Victoria Masters Meet normally held on the island (Commonwealth Pool in Saanich).
Last year, Heather Stein, BC Official came to Tsawwassen to conduct a clinic, but this year, the BC officials are trying to hold general clinics for everyone from all clubs, rather than doing clinics on a club by club basis.

Calling All Winskill Otters

You are cordially invited to attend the Kick-off Meeting for OTTERMANIA II (LCM).  This Meeting will take place:

  • on Tuesday, July 28, 2015
  • in the Multi-purpose Room at the Winskill Aquatic Centre
  • beginning at 6:00 p.m. (and is promised to end in time for our 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. swimmers to attend their practice)

Last year’s OTTERMANIA was a huge success, due mainly to the combined and tireless efforts of every Otter, each of whom contributed in more than one way – behind the scenes, before the Meet, on Meet Day and after the Meet. No less than 20 Otters competed while also working on Meet Day and some even swam personal bests!

OTTERMANIA II (LCM) is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2015!

Let’s work together to make OTTERMANIA II (LCM) much more than just a repeat success! When Otters pull together, there is greatness and there is accomplishment! We are not just a swim club, Otters are achievers and Otters are winners!

Winskill Otters Scholarship

We are more than a swim club, we are also supporters of our community. We are proud to provide a $250 scholarship to a student in our local high school, South Delta Secondary School (SDSS). This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student who has achieved good academic standing and has excelled in the areas of participation, sportsmanship and service while a member of the SDSS swim team. Martin Topp will be presenting the scholarship to the winner.

A few notes from our fearless leader….Coach Judy

I want to thank the six athletes that represented our club incredibly well at Provincials on the Island, Michelle, Fernanda, Liz, Aaron, Dan & Barb. You all swam very well and I want to thank you for taking the time to compete for the club.

As Michelle mentioned we won the banner for Medium Team again this year, it was very exciting for us (it never gets old!) We continue to do well as a team because so many of you are coming out to compete on behalf of our team. I look forward to seeing more of you out there at our meets later in the fall.

Barb Baerg competed in her first meet at Provincials this year and I know I will see more first timers at Provincials next year because it is in our own backyard at Watermania in Richmond. This will be a great goal to work towards for our 2015-2016 Season!

Ottermania 2015

Mark your calendars for the second annual Ottermania swim meet on Saturday, December 5 at Watermania in Richmond! Ottermania was a great success last year & we have decided to do it again this year. More information will be coming soon.
